Production Manager

The Moulding Production Manager will be responsible for the manufacture of silicone and polyurethane L&T components produced. The role includes people management, production planning and budgetary/cost reporting.

The purpose of the role is to lead the manufacturing function to meet customer requirements, to meet output targets within budget and have full accountability for ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost requirements are met.

The Moulding Production Manager will be responsible for understanding the qualities of the materials and technical characteristics of the machines to ensure smooth running of the department and driving the implementation of lean working methods.

The role holder is responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible team by building working relationships. They will manage the team in line with best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the supervisory team to deliver this.

They will work with other departments to integrate new products and help implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that the production areas operate in accordance with all health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.

 

Quality

  • Ensure that processes and control of processes are maintained and adhered to in line with the Production QMS procedures.
  • Work with the Quality / Engineering departments to perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Identify skill sets required for production, create, and maintain Skill matrices for all areas and undertake continuous training and development.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.

 

Delivery

  • Effectively and efficiently manage all production areas ensuring daily/weekly/monthly targets are met in line with the production plan, customer specifications, meeting quality and delivery expectations, minimising costs where possible and ensure the required best working practices are always maintained.
  • Manage and lead the team maintaining adequate staffing levels. Managing holiday allowances, recruitment, training, development, appraisals, attendance, disciplinary issues, and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity.

 

Cost

  • Ensure the target productivity level for each product range is achieved daily, driving process improvements on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by appropriate data analysis.
  • Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost.

 

Other

  • Develop a ‘can do’ culture within your supervisory team that is cascaded throughout the entire workforce.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed departmental objectives, and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Motivate and coach the team to operational success.
  • Develop, implement, and manage each area of responsibility.
  • Communicate with Production Supervisors and Production Workers effectively.
  • Collaborate with Assembly Production Manager and oversee their department when required.
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions.
  • Work as part of the Operational Management team to identify and share ideas and improve operational performance through collaboration.
  • Work collaboratively, to seamlessly introduce new products into production with respect to training of staff and sign off into production at the Demo FAI stage.
  • Communicate with stakeholders any changes and action that might impact the timeline with the Quality Engineering, Product Management, and R&D departments.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • To have working experience of plastic or rubber moulding would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Kaizen and lean manufacturing.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree educated, or HND, BTec Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualifications.
  • Experience of managing Profit & Loss responsibilities for manufacturing.
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001, IOSH/NEBOSH, ISO 14001.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
